Midland’s Georgian Bay District Secondary School evacuated

MIDLAND – Georgian Bay District Secondary School was evacuated Tuesday just before the start of classes for what was initially reported as a fire, but turned out to be smoke from an exhaust fan.

Three trucks from the Midland Fire Department rushed to the Hugel Avenue school shortly after 8:30 a.m.

According to the Simcoe County District School Board, all students and staff members got out of the school safely.

Students were transported to Mundy’s Bay Public School and Bayview Public School, but were taken back to GBDSS a short time later after the fire department gave the all-clear.
